A small, friendly corner of space

Many children are fascinated by the moon long before they know what space is. They spot it from the window, say goodnight to it and ask why it changes shape. Rockets and aliens add a bit of adventure to that curiosity.

Our space pages keep everything calm and cheerful. A rocket zooms past a star and a ringed planet, a crescent moon smiles at a little star, and a small alien with two round antennae waves next to its flying saucer. There are no dark skies, no crowded star fields and nothing strange or scary, just thick outlines and big shapes to fill.

The smiling moon is marked Very simple and suits children of 2 and 3. The rocket and the alien are marked Simple, with a few extras like a planet, a saucer and stars for children of 4 and 5.

Ideas while you color

  • Say goodnight to the moon

Color the moon page in the evening, then look for the real moon out of the window before bed.

  • Invent the alien

Ask what the alien is called and where it comes from. There is no wrong answer, and an alien can be any color.

  • Count down

Count down from five before you start the rocket, then blast off with the first crayon. Older children can count the fins too.

  • Add a night sky

Older children can draw more stars and planets in the white space, or color the sky dark blue around the drawing.

Questions parents ask

Which space page suits a 2-year-old?

Start with the smiling moon with a star. It is marked Very simple, with one big moon shape, one small star and very few details.

Is the alien scary?

No. It is a small, round alien with two big friendly eyes, a wide smile and a wave. It has no teeth, claws or tentacles.

Why is the sky white and not black?

A dark sky would mean big black areas that use a lot of ink and leave nothing to color. The white space lets your child color the sky any way they like.

Do the pages teach real facts about space?

Not really. The rocket, the moon and the alien are friendly cartoons made for coloring and storytelling. They can be a nice start before a picture book about the moon or the planets.
